The industrial Werkspoorhal, originally built in 1939, located at Oostenburgermiddenstraat 353 in Amsterdam, has been leased to BigGym. BigGym will use the 1,830 m² space for a sports/fitness centre and 700 m² for supporting functions such as physiotherapy, offices and catering in the surrounding plinths.
The cathedral-sized hall has a history as a manufacturing site for train locomotives and ship engines. The heavy steel structure and a large part of the coloured pipe walls will be preserved. Together with the steel structure, the historical function is very recognisable and visitors can freely enter and admire the monumental building during opening hours.
The gym is expected to open in early 2026, when the building will be open for everyone to admire. BiGgym has branches throughout the Netherlands and organises sports classes such as hydrox, boxing, crossfit, zumba, spinning and pump.
B&O Retail represented the landlord in this transaction.
