The British record store chain HMV, which stands for Master’s Voice, will open a store on Kalverstraat in Amsterdam in 2026. The store will have a total size of 600 m², spread over the ground floor and mezzanine.

HMV was founded in 1921 on Oxford Street in London, when records were still made of shellac, and in the decades that followed, it became a household name for music lovers. The brand was acquired by Sunrise Records and Entertainment in 2019 and, after years in which the shops mainly focused on selling DVDs, games, gadgets and electronics, is once again primarily focused on music – particularly vinyl – and pop culture in a broad sense.

HMV currently has more than 100 shops in Great Britain, three shops in Ireland and two shops in Belgium. In the Netherlands, HMV has a store in Kalverstraat and another in The Hague. HMV also has plans to open a total of 125 stores in Europe over the next five to six years. In addition to its own stores, there are also independently managed HMV stores in Canada, Singapore and Hong Kong.

B&O Retail represented the landlord, DE JONG GROEP, in this transaction.
