Obey Clothing is a clothing company founded in 2001 by street artist and illustrator Shepard Fairey as an extension of his work in activism. The company appropriates themes and graphics used in its clothing from John Carpenter’s movie “They Live.” Many garments contain symbols associated with communist propaganda. The idea behind it is to make it clear – in a somewhat sarcastic way – to people that they should think for themselves and make their own choices.
Obey Clothing is known as a cool clothing brand with influences from the punk, skate and rock world. Cool hoodies and baggy pants are standard part of the collection. The clothing company produces women’s / men’s clothing and accessories.
